In the bond of marriage, God calls husbands to lovingly lead their wives and families spiritually. This does not mean domineering control, but humble service after the example of Christ. As the spiritual head, a husband should create an atmosphere in the home where God’s presence dwells richly through prayer, scripture reading, and intentional discipleship.
Husbands must remember that their wives are fellow heirs in God’s kingdom, not subordinates. They are called to honor their wives and treat them with understanding, never bitterness or pride. A husband’s leadership should cast a vision for passing on a godly legacy to future generations. He should have integrity, truthfulness, and moral courage for his children.
Spiritual leadership requires time invested in cultivating one’s own relationship with God. He must seek heavenly wisdom daily through God’s Word and Spirit. As he grows in grace, the husband gains a new capacity to gently shepherd the hearts of his family.
Above all, a godly husband leads by example. As he submits to Christ’s lordship, he becomes worthy of honor in his home. Dear friends, may we as husbands follow Christ’s footsteps in our mandate to provide spiritual leadership.
