The Bible says that when you feed a hungry person, you feed God directly. That is why, we must feed the hungry whether they be our Christian brothers or sisters or any of our enemies.
If we look at the disciples of Jesus and the believers at that time, they sold their possessions and shared them with the needy, and they also shared their food.
Just remember that God gave life for us on this earth, suffered for us, we could not give anything to God in that way, so if we feed some poor and helpless people, we can feed God, what could be better than this? You need to enjoy it and feed it with joy.
Let us now look at the Bible verses from which we can understand more clearly.
Matthew 25:35(KJV) “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in”
Explanation:- We can serve God by serving people. If we feed a person who is suffering due to hungriness then we actually feed the Lord. It is our duty to help those who are in need of help.
Proverbs 25:21(KJV) “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink”
Explanation:- When persecution comes in the lives of believers they need to look forward towards the strength of Jesus. They must not take any revenge but they are to leave this on the hands of God. The Bible teaches to love the enemy and to give food and drink while they seek it(Romans 12:19-20) .
Luke 14:13(KJV) “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind”
Explanation:- Instead of inviting rich people, we should invite poor people who are in need of our help. When we serve the poor we get blessings from God. Do not walk the way people of this world are doing but we must be separated in our works.
Isaiah 58:10(KJV) “And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day”
Explanation:- Our service towards the needy helps us to get the attention of God. By doing such deeds we can win the heart of the Lord. As our primary duty is to satisfy God.
Luke 3:11(KJV) “He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise”
Explanation:- If we have anything extra when we must share with others who do not have even one. This kind of act makes us righteous in the sight of the Lord.
Proverbs 22:9(KJV) “He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor”
Explanation:- Our main job is to serve God by obeying his words. Our charitable deeds please God and open the way to receive blessing from above.
Proverbs 28:27(KJV) “He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse”
Explanation:- Those who give their things to the poor will never have shortage and they will prosper in every step of their lives. Because God will be their source of things and they will live peacefully forever.
Isaiah 58:7(KJV) “Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?”
Explanation:- Believers should provide food, cloth and shelter to those people who are suffering from these essential commodities. By doing such charitable acts they will be eligible to enter God’s house.
Galatians 6:2(KJV) “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ”
Explanation:- Christ’s intention was to help each other when our brothers are in need of help. We should approach them with our help and support so they can get rid of their troubles.
