Children are a gift from God, the ultimate expression of His love. Sons in particular represent the continuation of a family line and inheritance. Throughout scripture, we see that sons are considered blessings.
God promised Abraham that his descendants would outnumber the stars in the sky, and gave him the son he had waited so long for – Isaac. Later, we see Jacob’s 12 sons become the 12 tribes of Israel. Even Jesus’ earthly father Joseph graciously took Mary as his wife and adopted Christ as his own son, raising him to be a carpenter.
Having children to carry on a legacy is seen as a joy and privilege. The Bible reminds us that sons are like arrows in a man’s hands. Just as arrows can be aimed and shot toward a target, good fathers guide their sons wisely to walk in the ways of righteousness. Sons who follow God are a credit to their families. Even in old age, they will be there to honor and provide for parents who invested in them.
Of course, raising children also requires sacrifice and patience. But the effort is always worth it. Sons shape the future, and their character is a reflection of those who raised them. Though today’s society faces many corrupt influences, a godly home can produce sons who live lives of integrity. May we raise up the next generation to walk in truth, until Christ himself returns.
